Novatron Biological Agent Protection System Installed in Pentagon
Novatron, Inc. announced today that its BioProtectorTM air sterilization system has been installed in the Pentagon’s heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system in Washington, DC. The Novatron equipment sterilizes the air supply, rapidly and effectively killing biological organisms such as anthrax, bacteria, viruses and mold. The system uses a novel, high intensity, Advanced UV (ultraviolet) System (AUVS) that produces up to 1000 times the UV intensity of conventional germicidal systems resulting in far greater sterilization.
The system installed at the Pentagon treats 60,000 cubic feet per minute (cfm) of air flowing in the building’s HVAC system. The Novatron system is being evaluated as part of the Pentagon Shield II Exercise test program and if successful, additional systems could be installed. The Novatron BioProtectorTM technology was developed under the sponsorship of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) and with financial assistance from the Center for Commercialization of Advanced Technology (CCAT) in San Diego. Applications include protection of military and government facilities worldwide against bio-terrorism attack and protection of US civilian facilities as part of a homeland defense strategy. The Novatron BioProtectorTM technology is also effective for treating air in hospital surgery and isolation rooms, sterilizing air in pharmaceutical, medical and food manufacturing facilities and for use in commercial buildings to
kill mold and other harmful microorganisms. The technology offers significant advantages over competing technologies such as filtration.
Novatron’s President and CEO, Dr. Wayne Clark, noted that: “this technology not only provides the capability to protect government buildings and public facilities against biological agents, but also provides a very effective and efficient means for sterilizing air in health care facilities and otherbuildings and for dealing with airborne spread of pathogenic organisms such as the SARS and bird flu viruses.”
Novatron, Inc. was established in 2000 to develop innovative new technologies and sell equipment to address important defense and commercial market needs.
